METALS

     METALS

A material that can be in a solid or a liquid state and usually has a lot of electrical conductivity, one of the material properties. A good example of a metal it's gold. They are classified in two types ferrous and non-ferrous.

Types of Metals

1.FERROUS METALS: they contain iron. Ferrous metals can be picked up by a magnet, they are not resistant to rusting.

Some examples of ferrous metals are:

a) Cast Iron : used to make frying pans. The principal properties of cast iron are:

- Resistance to corrosion
- Hardness
- Strength

b)Carbon Steel: used in tools.

The proerties of carbon steel change depending on the number of carbon that contains. The general properties that nearly all share is:

- Strength and ductility (as higher is the number of carbon content the strength grows and ductility is lower.)

-Strong metal

- Resists to compression

c)Mild Steel: used in building car bodies, gates...

It has the following properties:

- Ductile metal

- Malleable

- It rusts quickly

d)  Stainless Steel:  This is an example of an ferrous alloy. Used for teapots, cookware...

It's properties are:

- Resistance to water corrosion

- Resistance to rug

e) High Carbon Steel: used for hand tools.

It's properties are:

- Very strong

- Very hard

- Very tough

2. NON-FERROUS METALS:  this are metals that doesn't have any iron at all. The general properties of non-ferrous metals are: they are not attracted to a magnet and they do not rust in the same way than ferrous metals.

Some examples of non-ferrous metals are:

a) Aluminium: used for window frames, expensive bycicles...

The general properties of aluminium are:

- Very light

- Very light grey colour

b) Cooper: used for cookware, money...

It's properties are:

- Ductile

- Malleable

-Good conductor of electicity and heat

c) Zinc : used on steel buckets.

Zinc properties are:

- Resistant to corrosion

- Weak metal

d) Tin: used on cans.

It's properties are:

- Ductile

- Malleable

- Resistant to corrosion

e) Lead: used for batteries.

Lead properties are:

- Soft

- Malleable

-Heavy

NON-FERROUS ALLOYS:

- Brass: is a mixture of copper and zinc. Copper is the main component. Used to make musical instruments.

Properties:

- Good conductor of heat

-Resistant corrosion

- Bronze: mixture of copper and tin. Used for statues or medals.

Properties:

- Hard

- High resistance to corrosion

NEW MATERIALS ABOUT METALS:

Nanoalloys: they are used to replace platinum, wich is expensive, in fuel cells.

STRUCTURES

WHAT IS AN STRUCTURE?   An structure can be anything that supports , holds or connects something . I usually say that is the basis or the key of something, if you look around you nearly every thing has or it's an structure , for example if you are in your house and you go to your kitchen you can see the microwave, it's an structure, then if you watch the TV, you can see there airplanes, they are structures, buildings... The structures can be used for: To hold things:  there are a lot of structures that hold things they have to be elaborated to hold so many weight.                                        To construct: every building, bridge and other constructions need to have an structure to support the weight of the construction.                                   ...

A CENTURY BETWEEN US MOVIE

A CENTURY BETWEEN US  MY OPINION ABOUT IT: Members:  Maria Antònia  Julie Hummert  Xander Stock Aaron  I loved the experience, I think everybody should make a movie at least one time in their life. It's a little bit stressing and sometimes I thought I we couldn't finish it. We had fun during the shooting and we learned a lot of things about the others. First, we couldn't decide a date  for the shootinf and becouse of these we were all stressed but finally we laughed a lot and enjoyed the shooting. I think the next year, the students should have more sessions in class to prepare it, during the technology and english classes, like classes of  editing, classes of interpretation... I'm proud of my film, because of the hard work we have done but I think it could be better. I would change some shootings and make it more complete and cool. The animation is a good one but not the best and we all tried to do it the best we can. https://docs...
